Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord is a South African rap-rave group formed in Cape Town in 2008 around Ninja, the stage name of Watkin Tudor Jones, and ¥O-LANDI VI$$ER, with production historically associated with DJ Hi-Tek. Their music crosses hip-hop, club electronics, rave and pop hooks with the zef imagination, a South African aesthetic the project turned into a language of its own in both sound and visuals.

Their international breakthrough came at the start of the 2010s with the viral circulation of “Enter the Ninja” and the album $O$. From there, Die Antwoord developed a highly recognisable discography with Ten$ion, Donker Mag, Mount Ninji and da Nice Time Kid and HOUSE OF ZEF, alternating aggressive rap, club bass, deliberately catchy melodies and a stage identity inseparable from their videos and characters.

In 2026 the project returned with ZAMA ZAMA, its sixth studio album. Released on 20 June through Zef Records and distributed by Stem, the record contains ten tracks across roughly 35 minutes and maintains the crossing of electronics, rap and rave energy that has run through the catalogue. The release also extends into a micro-series developed by the group around the ZAMA ZAMA universe.

Beyond the records, Die Antwoord has built a particularly recognisable visual identity through its own art direction, characters, videos and a highly specific interpretation of zef culture. That combination of electronic music, rap, fiction and visual aesthetics remains at the centre of the project in its current phase.
