Black Coffee

Black Coffee is the stage name of South African DJ and producer Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo. His career grew from South Africa's house scene and has played an important role in expanding the international reach of house music deeply connected to African rhythms, voices and musical sensibilities. After early work as part of SHANA, he developed a solo catalogue including albums such as Black Coffee, Home Brewed and Pieces of Me, alongside collaborations across different musical fields. In 2022 he won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album with Subconsciously. His work combines production, extensive touring and residencies, with a particularly strong connection to Ibiza. In 2026 he continues a large international schedule while expanding parts of his repertoire into band and orchestral formats without leaving house as the foundation.
