Marcel Dettmann

Marcel Dettmann is a German DJ and producer closely connected to the recent history of Berlin techno. Raised in the former GDR, he developed his musical background through new wave, post-punk, industrial music and EBM before encountering techno in the early 1990s. His long relationship with Ostgut and later Berghain, where he became a resident, made the DJ booth a central part of his career; he also spent years working at Hard Wax. As a producer he has released albums, EPs and remixes through labels including Ostgut Ton and his own Marcel Dettmann Records and BAD MANNERS. His work combines physical club function, space, dub-informed detail and a deep knowledge of techno history without treating that history as a fixed formula.
