Derrick Carter

Derrick Carter is an American DJ and producer closely associated with the second wave of Chicago house. He began DJing at a very young age and became a central figure in the city’s underground during the 1990s, with a selection where disco, soul, jazz and house coexist inside a highly personal groove.

In 1995 he co-founded Classic Music Company with Luke Solomon, creating an important bridge between Chicago and the UK house scene. He has also released music as Sound Patrol and built a long international career as both remixer and DJ.

His approach in the booth is defined by elasticity: long blends, shifts in mood and a reading of house that is less rigid than most. That combination of technique and repertoire has kept him a reference point for several generations of DJs.
