Robert Hood

Robert Hood is a Detroit DJ and producer whose work occupies a central place in the development of minimal techno. He was part of the early Underground Resistance line-up alongside Jeff Mills and Mike Banks before focusing on his own stripped-back production language, built around repetition and a highly controlled economy of elements. In 1994 he released Minimal Nation, an album that became a defining reference for one of techno's most influential 1990s strands. Hood runs M-Plant, the label through which he has developed both his solo catalogue and Floorplan, a project begun in the 1990s and later expanded with his daughter Lyric. In 2026 he remains active with new M-Plant releases, live work and DJ sets connecting Detroit techno, minimalism and gospel-informed house.
