Speedy J

Speedy J is the alias of Jochem Paap, a Dutch producer and DJ whose trajectory forms part of European techno history since the early 1990s. His first major impact came with Pullover, followed by Ginger, included in Warp’s Artificial Intelligence series and already pointing towards a form of techno open to listening and experimentation.

Over time, Paap pushed his sound towards denser, more industrial and abstract structures without losing its relationship with the dancefloor. He also developed Electric Deluxe and, more recently, STOOR, a platform centred on electronic improvisation and collaborative live formats.

His current work combines DJing, live performance and studio encounters with artists from different generations. That balance between technical precision, improvisation and a broad reading of techno explains Speedy J’s lasting position within the international circuit.
