Underworld

Underworld is the British project of Karl Hyde and Rick Smith, one of the most influential acts to connect club electronics, techno, progressive house and song-based forms since the early 1990s. After an earlier phase closer to electronic pop and rock, the group found its defining language with Darren Emerson and albums including dubnobasswithmyheadman and Second Toughest in the Infants. Born Slippy .NUXX greatly expanded their audience after its use in Trainspotting, but the catalogue that followed retained a close relationship with the dancefloor, live performance and audiovisual experimentation. Hyde and Smith remain active as a duo, combining large-scale touring with new recordings. They released Strawberry Hotel in 2024 and continued issuing new material and collaborations through 2026 alongside an extensive international live schedule.
