Paul Kalkbrenner

Paul Kalkbrenner is a German electronic producer and musician whose career is deeply tied to Berlin after the fall of the Wall. He grew up in East Berlin and began shaping his own sound within the city's rave culture, choosing early on to produce and perform his own music rather than follow the traditional DJ format.

After his first releases for BPitch Control, his career moved onto an international scale with Berlin Calling, the film in which he played producer Ickarus and for which he created a soundtrack that became a reference point in European electronic music. It also produced Sky and Sand, recorded with his brother Fritz Kalkbrenner.

His live show is built entirely around his own productions, breaking tracks apart and rearranging them on stage. With a recognisable blend of techno, melody and long-form structures, Kalkbrenner has moved from Berlin clubs to major festivals, arenas and large-scale concerts without giving up his identity as a live act.
