THE STORY BEHIND
VLADIMIR CAUCHEMAR

Vladimir Cauchemar is the masked project of French producer and composer Guillaume Brière. Before developing this alias, he already had an extensive career in French music as a member of The Shoes and The Film, alongside production and songwriting work for other artists. Behind the skull mask, Brière has built a language since 2017 that blends electronic music, rap, pop and, increasingly, large-scale techno.

The project debuted with «Aulos», released by Ed Banger Records in 2017. Built around a recorder and a minimalist beat, the track quickly became its first signature piece. Its success opened the door to a broad run of collaborations with few genre boundaries. Cauchemar worked with French rap artists including Vald, Orelsan, Jul, Laylow, Rim'K and SCH, as well as electronic producers such as Shlømo.

Ed Banger was the main platform during Vladimir Cauchemar's early years. From that environment came singles, remixes and a highly recognisable visual identity, while Brière's production work continued to expand into pop and hip-hop. «Élévation» with Vald, «Brrr» with Laylow and Rim'K, and «Extendo» with SCH and Unknown T show how easily he moves between scenes that usually operate with very different codes.

From 2024 and 2025 onwards, the project began to shift more clearly towards techno and rave. The remix of Kaaris' «Zoo» and «God» with Shlømo signalled that transition, later reinforced by the «Chrome» stage concept. This phase keeps the theatricality and iconography of the character, but moves the musical centre towards harder kicks, higher tempos and production designed for large electronic stages.

His recent discography includes «PANDEMONIUM RELOADED», «PTSD», «REGULATION RELOADED» and, in 2026, «Sport» alongside new versions of tracks from his catalogue. The project continues to move between solo releases, rap collaborations and a techno side that is becoming increasingly prominent live.

Vladimir Cauchemar's particular strength lies in that continuity between very different worlds. Brière does not treat rap, pop and techno as separate phases of his career: he uses them as materials within the same visual and musical project. The skull mask provides an instantly recognisable image, but the real substance is a production style capable of moving from a beat for a rapper to a rave track without losing its identity.
