DJ Hell

DJ Hell is the alias of Helmut Josef Geier, a DJ, producer and the figure behind International Deejay Gigolo Records. Active since the late 1970s, his trajectory runs through several eras of German club culture, from punk, new wave and electro into the house and techno that later took him to residencies at venues including Tresor, E-Werk, WMF and New York’s Limelight.

In 1994 he released Geteert & Gefedert, his debut album, and in the mid-1990s launched International Deejay Gigolo Records in Munich. The label became an important platform for electro, techno, house and the later rise of electroclash, with artists including Miss Kittin & The Hacker, Fischerspooner, Dopplereffekt, Tiga and Vitalic appearing across its catalogue.

Hell’s own discography has moved between techno, electro, disco, ambient and European pop references. Munich Machine, NY Muscle, Teufelswerk and Zukunftsmusik document different stages of that evolution. In 2026 he returned to the meeting point between electroclash and contemporary club music with NEOCLASH, released through International Deejay Gigolo Records.

Beyond production, DJ Hell has maintained a close relationship with fashion, design and art direction. That mix of club culture, visual identity and label work explains much of his influence: his career has been built not only from the booth, but also from creating contexts through which important strands of European electronic music could circulate.
