THE STORY BEHIND
SEPT

Sept is the project of Michel Morales Villavicencio, a Polish-born DJ and producer now based in Berlin. He began developing his career around 2015 and has since built a techno language focused on groove, tension and control of space on the dancefloor. Although his catalogue includes darker and more industrial phases, his recent evolution has moved towards a broader reading of techno: dry percussion, hypnotic lines and structures capable of sustaining intensity without relying solely on speed.

His discography includes releases on several important European techno labels. He has published on Flash Recordings, Clergy, Sacred Court, EXHALE Records and BPitch, as well as appearing on platforms such as Voxnox in earlier phases. Beyond The Veil, included on the 2021 EXHALE VA002 compilation, placed him within Amelie Lens's orbit; Can I Taste The Sin, released by BPitch in 2024 as part of the We Are Not Alone series, confirmed a connection with Ellen Allien's catalogue. His relationship with Clergy has particular weight: Sept has publicly spoken about the label's influence on his musical development and the personal significance of eventually releasing on a platform he had followed since his early years as a DJ.

Alongside those releases for other labels, Sept has developed OPUS, his own platform and imprint. It has allowed him to organise part of his catalogue with greater control over sound and visual identity, releasing work such as Timeless Exploration and Leave Your Body. OPUS functions as an extension of his club practice and helps explain his recent phase, less concerned with fitting a hard techno label and more focused on developing a personal language within contemporary techno.

His EPs and releases include titles such as Challenge, Chaos Collider, Ultimate Seduction and Sensation Seeker. The range of labels that have released his music — from BPitch to Clergy and EXHALE — reflects a fairly transversal position: he can work with industrial and rave-oriented techno tools, but also with more classic grooves, hypnotic sequences and structures designed for long sets.

In the booth he has played clubs and festivals across Poland, Germany and other European countries, with his schedule also extending into Asia. Berlin is now the main base of his activity, with appearances at venues such as RSO.BERLIN and Else. In 2026 he continues to play internationally and share line-ups with artists from different generations, including an FVTVR session in Paris alongside Chris Liebing and TSIEG.

Sept's trajectory is best understood as a continuous evolution rather than a series of stylistic resets. He has moved from darker, more forceful techno towards production where groove, sound design and club narrative carry increasing weight, while maintaining strong relationships with labels that have defined different phases of recent European techno.
